Will fringe groups like the Birthers, the Truthers, and The Tea Party protesters push Moderate Republicans out?

Some are already targeting American Patriots like Lindsey Graham calling him a traitor. Others are targeting other Republican Senators. Will these fringers succeed in the primaries only to have their fringe approved Candidates fail in the general? It happened to Lincoln Chafee and others last election and most of them lost. What will 2010 bring? Will the Tea Party protesters bag their own party?
