Ex boyfriend says he misses me too! Help!?

ok so me and my ex broke up about 5 weeks ago..we were together a yr and a half and lived together. I moved out when he broke up with me, saying that it was just everything..broke up with me out of the blue even though we were having some problems. We werent getting along because we never went out and did anything, i lost one of my jobs, we were broke and both of our family members had health issues. It was a tough yr for both of us but not because of us. Things just got out of hand, didnt put any energy into our relationship and we bickered a lot. I made the mistake of begging for him back the first week after we broke up. Now i only text him if i have a question, like did i leave this at the apartment or what not. He does the same. The other night I told him I wanted to be his friend and he said hes not ready for that yet. I told him I understood and want him in my life. Then I told him I missed him. He never answered. Last night I told him I missed him and he said he missed me too. Then this morning he asked me a question about cd's that he knew i returned, like as an excuse to talk to me. This was all through texting. I love him and wanna spend my life with him. What does this mean? Is he going to come around to be my friend or want me back? Also, I wrote him a letter explaining how I feel about everything, not pleaing to get him back just explaining how without the breakup I wouldnt have realized how crappy things were and now Im ready to do things differently.Should I send it? I wrote it for myself bc he still wont talk to me about why he broke up with me, even though i know. Would sending it let him know things can change?
